First Thing:
These cookies are from when we celebrated our family friend's departure for boot camp.  It's been about a month and a half since then but I forgot I'd taken these photos.  I adore them though and had to share.

It's over

First Thing:
Valentine's Day is over.  However, I didn't get a chance to post my pictures of the cookies I made.

Second Thing:
My life can now be over.  I have fallen in love with goat cheese.  This has been going on for a while but in the last few days I have experienced new ways to enjoy my love.  On a burger with lettuce.  And now . . . in FISH TACOS!  This night has forever changed me and an explanation will be coming in another blog post (to follow shortly).  However, this is what my devotion has been given to lately,

Cookies

First Thing:
Friday night and Saturday provided the opportunity for me to bake lots and lots of Christmas cookies for people I love. Friday night consisted of chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookies for my roommates, my fiance, my wonderful friend Mark (both are in Iraq) , and the "boys' house" full of dear friends who are all in need of cookies. Saturday was filled with baking chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies with one of my best friends Tia. Saturday night was filled with the Husker football game (an unfortunate loss) and frosting lots and lots and lots and lots of sugar cookies in the most creative ways. Nothing makes me happier than baking for others. There's just something about spending all day in the kitchen creating delicious treats for those you love. I can't wait until next Christmas when I can frost cookies with my husband. This year Tia and I went with a less than traditional decorative method and chose to use a modern twist on all of our cookies. I kind of like it this way, I think from now on I'll chose to make this a part of my Christmas tradition with my new husband (nontraditional Christmas cookies).

Second Thing:
Old friends are the best. Friends you haven't seen or talked to in a long time can lift your spirits always. Friday provided the opportunity to catch up with a dear friend from high school, which reminded me how wonderful she is and how encouraging she is. An old college friend who I rarely see stopped by twice on Saturday and stayed for a few hours each time. The six hours he was here still didn't make up for the few times I've seen him in the last couple of years but it was nice. He is one of the most genuine people I know, who really takes interest in his friends' lives and in what they have to say. You couldn't ask for a better friend.
A wonderful and lengthy conversation with my fiance, a delicious homemade bowl of soup, and Christmas movies with my roommate have made Sunday just as marvelous. And finally to conclude the most wonderful weekend I am sitting watching snow fall. The first real snow of winter (the one in October doesn't count). Despite the few downs of this semester this weekend has certainly been an up.
