Peace

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

First Thing:
This past week has been the hardest week of my life.  Harder than when Nate left for Iraq.  My dearest grandmother passed away.  She was such a beautiful person and my heart aches without her.  I used to talk with her about every week and would look forward to seeing her every chance I got.  She taught me so much about being a godly woman, about living life, and being a good wife.  We traveled back to Colorado this week to celebrate her life and for the first time in my life I heard my grandpa cry (which was probably the hardest part of the trip).  On a lighter note, I did get to see a lot of my cousins and I mean a lot.  In the photo below, not even all of them are there. It's blurry but I'll find a better one.
When I got home, it was time to celebrate Nate's birthday.  So we did.  I bought him an assorted six-pack of his favorite beers, made pesto cavatappi (a knock off version of Noodle's & Co. found here.) because it's green, and baked Guinness chocolate cupcakes with Bailey's Irish Cream cream cheese frosting.  I made them in 1/2 pint mason jars to test it out before the wedding shower I'm hosting this weekend.  They are so good.  They are so good I could eat them every night for the rest of my life, literally.  Despite the fact that he had to report for guard at 3:30 AM on Sunday morning, he said it was the best birthday ever.  He's 26 now, which means he's on the downward slope to 30. . . . YIKES!

Today I spent the afternoon with my family and we went through my grandmother's jewelry, dividing it up among the "five girls".  I was blessed enough to end up with her wedding rings; the first one my grandfather gave my grandmother and the second one he gave her later once he saved enough money to buy her a bigger one.  We will be getting them appraised, so for now I will be wearing my grandmother's original wedding band.  It's so nice to have a special piece of her so close to me.
All I can say is . . . "it is well with my soul". That has been my comfort as of late.

Nate has been a true gentleman through all of this and has been a tremendous comfort.  I can go to sleep without him by my side and he's been so patient, kind, and comforting.  He's a special guy and I'm excited I get to spend the rest of my life with him.  I hope to be married to him for 59 years like my grandparents.

It has been a while

First Thing:
I loved the color run. It was so much fun!  Bo-nanza.  Yes, we like you Bo Pelini.
We only thought we were covered in color.

 Yeah, now we're covered.

Second Thing:
I've been doing some traveling lately.  I went to Austin to visit my best friend and had a very relaxing weekend and much needed catching up time.  I also tried Hey Cupcake! for the first time and it was fantastic!
Then I made my way to Arkansas to visit my little sister for her 21st birthday! :)  Wahoo!

Third Thing:
There are lots of babies around.  I'm not sure how I feel about it. I did get to meet my best friend's baby Shepherd on Tuesday night.  He is so precious and it was good to catch up with her.  Still, lots of people having babies . . . not us though.  We're not at that point in our lives yet and we're okay with that.  But here's to all of those who are! Cheers.

Hopefully, I'll be posting more regularly on here.  I've been slacking.  Too much traveling and Investigation Discovery.

Investigation Discovery

Tonight is champagne, looking at recipe books, and watching Alaska: Ice Cold Killers on Investigation Discovery. I'm weird. I don't care. I like my life.

List

1. Nate got an iphone 4.  I suppose I'm next considering whatever he gets, I get. February 3 here I come.  Please replace my current phone with anything that works.
2. I've ordered new running shoes.  I CAN'T FREAKING WAIT to get them.  Adrenaline GTS 12 by Brooks.  Stability here we come.  Hopefully this will correct the problem with my knee and as a result my foot (and of course my hips).
3. I thoroughly enjoyed my bottle of Norton Clasico (from Argentina, literally it was brought to America by my friend Nathalie from Argentina).
4. I enjoyed the above wine with homemade Indian food (including naan).
5. Real Housewives of Orange County is starting up again.  Thank goodness!  I need something to occupy my time when Nate's in school.
6. Speaking of Nate being in school, I will be painting our living room to pass the time.  First I need to recommit to paint colors.
7. I will put my Christmas decorations away this weekend.
8. New Girl is back and I am loving it.  (So is Grey's but I haven't caught up yet).
9. I could go for some cold weather.  It would certainly make our flannel sheets worth while and perhaps keep me from waking up in the middle of the night sweating and scooting as far away from Nate as possible.
10. I will be finishing my taxes early this year.  Hopefully within the first week of February.

Good Things

First Thing:
My pearls have been missing since August.  Yesterday morning Nate found them in his sock drawer.  Praise!  Nate gave them to me for my birthday three years ago losing them was the worst thing ever.  I cried (more than once).  What's even better than Nate giving them to me is finding them for me.

Second Thing:
I made my way up to NE (again) this weekend for the wedding of a dear friend.  It was a lot of fun and very exhausting.  I can't wait to crawl in to bed tonight, sleep in the middle, and be cozy for 8 long hours.

Third Thing:
This afternoon (after my very first filling at the dentist) I went wedding dress shopping with my newly engaged friend Kasondra.  It was so much fun!  My friend Diedra still works at David's Bridal and she was able to help Kasondra find the perfect dress.  We worked together at my very first job at Hancock Fabrics (when I was 16) and she helped me find the perfect wedding dress when I got married.  It was also fun to relive the experience of wedding dress shopping.  I'm very excited to help with planning and ideas.  After I planned my wedding I thought I would never EVER want to do that again but . . . . it's a lot more fun and a lot less stressful than planning my wedding.  Tonight I will enjoy a glass of wine, an few minutes of Pinterest and wedding blogs, and some Real Housewives.  Yes, this means I will be heading to be around 8:30.  Don't judge.  It's fantastic.

No Facebook

First Thing:
No Facebook, I will not be friends with my husband's ex-girlfriend.  Please stop suggesting her as someone I know.

Second Thing:
My dearest friend Kasondra got engaged tonight! I couldn't be more excited for her!!!  What a fantastic start to 2012!!!

2012 New Year

First Thing:
Nate and I held our first party ever and I'd like to think it was a success.  It was a combination of old friends, church friends, and family.  Interestingly enough all the girls spent the first part of the evening in the kitchen finishing up the food and the guys spent time in the living room watching football.  We all ended up in the living room watching the ball drop and watching NYE in Big D and toasting at midnight.  I think we might make this a tradition.

Second Thing:
Our menu consisted of many delicious things.
I made an ombre cake but used pink instead (I'll post pictures soon).

I made these coconut truffles again because they are so easy and delicious.

Nate and I always make this feta cheese and tomato dip for dinner and I figured I'd actually make it as a dip for NYE.

Lauren and I enjoyed this for Easter one year while we were in college with our friends Lauren and Tia.  They are so delicious and easy to make.

This was a new dish.  I'm still not sure how I feel about it.  It was good and easy but I still need to perfect the recipe.

We also had the traditional velveeta and rotel queso dip . . . but it was made with white queso so it tasted like Fuzzy's and Nate made his special dip.  His dip is an interesting combination and I'm not sure I should disclose what is in it because it might make you not want to try it.  It may not sound good but it tastes amazing.  It's basically a spicy dip eaten with corn chips.
For drinks we had some sparkling wine with blackberries, beer for the boys, and of course some champagne for toasting.

Happy 2012!
